Carol & Brian's Place on Waiheke Island, Auckland

Waiheke Island is well known for its boutique vineyards, many of which have their own restaurant and also for its resident artists. It is only 35 minutes by ferry from downtown Auckland and the ferries run regularly during the day and evening.

We are approximately 7 minutes walking distance from the village and across the road and down a track is the beach of Oneroa.

Waiheke Island Holiday Apartment

Our unit is attached to our home but is completely separate and has its own entrances and patio overlooking Oneroa Bay.

It consists of a double bedroom with a queen sized bed. Along a small hall is the bathroom with bath, shower and toilet and washing machine. Through the hall door is a lounge/kitchenette. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge/freezer, microwave, full oven/stove and sink bench. Pots and pans, cutlery and crockery are all supplied, as is a starter pack of tea, coffee, sugar, milk, beer and wine. In the lounge area is a divan which can be pulled out to make a double bed with innersprung mattress. There is also a single bed in that room. All linen is supplied. The bedroom and lounge both have TV's and radios. We also have folding cots and a highchair available for infants.

Our base tariff is $190 per night for up to two guests and $20 per night for any extra people. Please use our enquiry form to request a personalised quote.

This is a child friendly unit set on a half-acre of land with lawns and fruit trees on the back section which the children are more than welcome to play. We are visited, mainly in the evening by pukeko (swamp hens) and rabbits. There are many trees in the neighbourhood which encourage visits from native (tui, native pigeon) and other birds. We have a BBQ on our back veranda which can be used by the guests.

Getting Around

Being an island there are many choices of beaches. The ones on the northern side of the island are the most popular with lovely white and golden sand and are safe for swimming. The ones on the south side are for safe swimming during the high tide as they are very tidal... However, these are great for collecting shells and spotting seabirds at low tide.

Wine Tasting - Waiheke Island is well-known for its wine. You can take a wine tour with one of the local tour companies or drive yourselves (with a dedicated driver) to do tasting or to have lunch or dinner at the vineyards.

Golf - The local golf club has its course on Onetangi Road, a 15 minute drive from here.

Fishing - Two companies take out visitors to the island and it is almost guaranteed to catch some fish, mainly snapper or trevalli which is usually divided amongst the guests on the boat to take home. All gear and bait is supplied. If you have your own surfcasting gear, you can fish off several beaches.

Scuba Diving - Scuba diving rental gear and trips are advertised in the local paper. Locals go diving for scallops and crayfish in the local bays and further out around Rakino Island.
