    This touring route incorporates the North  Island of New Zealand. The arrival point of this itinerary is Auckland Airport where you can pick up your rental vehicle. The route takes down the middle of the North Island through to the Central Plateau region and to the Mt Ruapehu Ski Area (Whakapapa & Turoa).

    The driving distance from Auckland to Mt Ruapehu is about 4 hours.

    There are many towns around the Mt Ruapehu boundary including Ohakune, Waiouru, National Park Village, Whakapapa & Turoa Skifield and Turangi.

    The slopes of Mt Rupehu are a year round tourist attraction, with it's chairlift operating tours up the mountain in the summer, and providing great skiing on Whakapapa and Turoa skifields in the winter.

    A variety of accommodation is available in this region, from budget ski lodges to luxury 5 star lodges.

    Ski and few days, take in the sights and party in the bars at night,  then after the fun jump back in your car and head back to Auckland, drop off your rental and fly back home.new zealand driving times
