Rotorua
Gushing geysers, boiling mud pools, steaming vents and bubbling lakes are just about everywhere in and around Rotorua. So, it’s not hard to find some natural hot water to soak in around here.
Hells Gate, Rotorua. As you walk through native bush and clouds of geothermic steam, you’ll discover why this land has inspired myths and legends. Once used by Maori warriors to heal their battle-scarred bodies, visitors now use the nutrient-rich waters and mud to ease inflammation and arthritis, as well as rejuvenate the skin. Waikite Valley Thermal Pools. This is a unique place to go to experience the 'Living Waters' of Waikite Valley, home of the magnificent Te Manaroa Spring, the largest single source of 100% pure boiling water in New Zealand. Choose from 6 outdoor public pools ranging in temperatures from 36 - 40º C and 4 private pools, temperature controlled by you, drained and refilled daily with fresh, calcite laden, geothermal water, so a pure bathing experience is guaranteed. Take a relaxing stroll to the Te Manaroa Spring. Along the way, learn about ferns and mosses that are unique to just a few geothermal areas in the southern Rotorua area.
